Gael Clichy’s future at Manchester City isn’t clear with his contract expiring next summer, and reports suggest Pep Guardiola is looking for a younger option in the transfer market.

The 31-year-old hasn’t been a first choice Manchester City in the biggest games this season, and reports in the Italian media claim he could move to Napoli in January.

The Serie A club are reportedly looking for a replacement for Faouzi Ghoulam, who is expected to be unavailable due to his likely participation in the African Cup of Nations.

Italian journalist Rai Ciro Venerato (via Tutto Napoli) has been speaking about the possibility of Clichy signing for Napoli in January.

Venerato dismissed the rumours saying the ‘economic and demographic parameters’ of signing Clichy makes it’s difficult. To put it simpler: It’d cost too much.

Clichy has made 10 appearances for Manchester City this season under Pep Guardiola, and won’t be short of options if he doesn’t remain with the club next season.
