It’s not a stretch to say that Yerry Mina’s first season at Everton proved to be something of a disaster.
After an impressive World Cup with Columbia, the centre back arrived at Goodison Park in a big-money move from Barcelona to much acclaim.
However, he never really got going under Marco Silva, with a series of niggling injuries and inability to get fully fit completely hampering his campaign.
This year has been completely different, with Mina becoming a first-team regular and proving to be a big hit in the heart of the defence.
It was surprising, then, when Everton took on Manchester United at Goodison Park on Sunday to see the Colombian sat on the bench, with Michael Keane taking his place in the starting XI.
Some questioned whether this may have been a fitness issue, but according to Marca, that is not the case.
They report that his exclusion was a ‘technical decision’ with sources close to the player telling them Mina is in “excellent condition”.
The newspaper insists that Mina remains ‘essential for Everton and also for Ancelotti’ and that anyone worrying about his situation should be ‘calm’ as he’s in ‘great shape’ and will regain his place in the team before too long.
