Not yet made official by Manchester City but basically a done deal, Claudio Echeverri is already being recognised by some of the biggest in Argentina, like Javier Mascherano.

That’s because TyC Sports are reporting the Argentina youth manager has called him up for the Pre-Olympic tournament in Venezuela.

This comes after Pedro de la Vega had to pull out because of injury, and River Plate are ‘willing to allow’ the 18-year-old to go, despite not being obliged to.

TyC Sports recall the player has been ‘transferred’ to Manchester City for €24m but will remain on loan with the Argentine team until December 2024.

That’s a deal similar to the one Pep Guardiola’s side put together for Julián Álvarez, although no one has made it official just yet.

As things stand, River Plate are ‘still negotiating the moment’ when they will allow him to go with the U23 team as they are currently in pre-season in the United States.

Still, this will be great news for Manchester City, who will have the opportunity to see their latest acquisition in action at a higher level, having already been convinced enough of his potential to pull the trigger on a rather expensive deal.

And if he shines at the tournament ahead of the Olympics, there’s a good chance everyone at the Etihad will start patting each other on the back, delighted at having scored a potential bargain early on.
