Leaving Paris Saint-Germain. Thomas Tuchel almost immediately bounced back at Chelsea, who had moved on from Frank Lampard.

What followed, few could have predicted, as the German took the Blues all the way to a Champions League trophy in his first (not even full) season, and the Stamford Bridge side currently sit atop of the Premier League after 12 games, three points clear of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Whether that is the case come the end of the season, only time will tell, but one thing is certain: Thomas Tuchel is a happy man in London.

He was, however, serious when describing his current situation at Chelsea: “I have the feeling that I’m in the perfect place here, and for me, this is simply the prerequisite for the greatest possible success”.

With a contract extended until 2024, there’s no reason why he couldn’t make it until then, and perhaps even beyond that, which is what he wants.

Speaking of his next ‘sabbatical’, as such, he simply said it ‘hopefully’ won’t be ‘for a long, long time’.
