Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has a big reason to be proud this week.
After 74 caps for Norway’s national team, the 28-year-old is set to finally get the chance to start a game as their captain.
That’s today reported by Ekstra Bladet, with the outlet also featuring some quotes from the Tottenham player about that achievement.
Højbjerg explained how much the manager’s decision meant to him, claiming he’ll do his best to live up to that role.
“Here it is after 75 games. And I’m incredibly grateful and proud of that,” Højbjerg told the Norwegian media.
“It’s big for me and a huge pat on the back. It’s important to be yourself. I know that my role is an obligation and I’m also ready to take responsibility.”
They also have a couple of games against Sweden and Norway before they finally go to the Euro, where they play Slovenia, England and Serbia in the group stages.
There’s a long time to go until the tournament starts, though, so Højbjerg will probably want to be focused on the end of the season with Tottenham.
Ange Postecoglou’s side will be back in action on Saturday, when they play Luton Town in the Premier League, although there is little chance the Spurs midfielder will start the game, as he has been used far more from the bench than anything else this season.
