Inter, having brought back Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea, as well as signed Kristjan Asllani and Raoul Bellanova on loan, haven’t spent all that much money on the transfer market.

Their finances don’t really allow big expenditure these days beyond paid loans, which is the avenue they are trying to pursue for a new centre-back.

That’s why they are stuck in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund when it comes to transferring Manuel Akanji, and why they are reluctant to fully engage with Tottenham for Japhet Tanganga.

The Spurs defender has been touted quite strongly with a move to Italy this summer, with Milan and AS Roma often linked over the past month or so, while Inter looked at it in early August.

They moved onto other targets for a bit, but Gazzetta dello Sport explain the Tottenham centre-back has returned on their radar.

The newspaper report the ‘Tanganga hypothesis has regained strength in these past few hours’, as Antonio Conte’s side are ‘ready to loan him, but are also asking for an obligation to buy’.

This doesn’t fit with what Inter are looking for, preferring an option to buy in case the deal doesn’t work out, and that is what is ‘putting brakes on the pressure’ from their end.

It’s the same with Akanji, meaning that either the Serie A side give in to one of Tottenham’s or Dortmund’s demands, or look elsewhere to bolster their defence.
