Sérgio Aguero’s return to South America didn’t have a very warm welcome. After a draw and a loss during the last international break, Argentina are under much pressure in the World Cup Qualifiers, with the Manchester City star being one of the biggest targets for press and fans.
First there was the 2-2 draw against Peru, when the player was replaced after 73 minutes. Then the 1-0 loss to Paraguay, which was marked by Aguero’s penalty miss.
The player was asked by Olé about this, and said that being back in Manchester has helped his recovery: “Being there, the mind is always different, you are thinking of something else. I arrived to Manchester and I wasn’t well so I didn’t start against Everton. Me and Pep talked about it, that when you come touched in your head, it influences you in the game.
“In the end I came on and I missed the penalty again. It was a week to forget. But luckily afterwards everything changed. I could reverse it,” said the striker.
Questioned if he’d give up on taking penalties for the national team from now on, Aguero totally denies it: “No, if I have to take it, I’m going to take it. Now Leo is with us. But if it’s my turn to do so, I will face it. If I didn’t do it out of fear, I’d be a coward.”
