Former Southampton forward Papa Waigo N’Diaye has now revealed his spell at St Mary’s was one of the best moments of his playing career.
The Saints took the 38-year-old on a season-long loan deal from Fiorentina in 2009, when they were in the League One.
During his temporary spell at Southampton, Papa Waigo N’Diaye scored eight goals and registered eight assists from 44 matches in all competitions. He was the English club’s third top scorer during the 2009/10 season, behind Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana.
Il Posticipo have had a detailed chat with the ex-Senegal international. During the course of the interview, he was asked to detail his best experience outside Italy, which is when he mentioned Southampton.
As part of the agreement between Fiorentina and Southampton, the latter had an option to make Papa Waigo N’Diaye’s stay permanent, but didn’t take it. The Senegalese has now revealed that he was keen to continue in England.
“Fiorentina did everything to get me back after the loan. If it was up to me, I wouldn’t have left. My way of playing was perfect for English football. We went fast on the flanks, then there was aggression and grit,” Papa Waigo N’Diaye explained.
Southampton were promoted to the Championship the following season.
