The arrival of Jean-Philippe Mateta at Crystal Palace was one of the bigger transfers to get done this January transfer window, with the striker arriving on loan from Mainz for the next 18 months.
While the option to make the move permanent isn’t entirely compulsory, the general consensus is there is a far greater chance of him staying at Selhurst Park than returning to Germany.
Yet to feature for Palace, the player, however, is ready to hit the ground running in London, wanting to continue his great early season form and take the Premier League by storm.
Sitting down for an interview with So Foot after his move, Mateta made it clear: “I want to break everything. I’m starving, hungry, and since nothing is handed to you, I’m going to have to work”.
However, he did reveal that his ambition was to win trophies, and while he might not do that with his new club, they could help him achieve it.
He said: “We can qualify for the Europa League for starters! After that, Crystal Palace can help me find a club where I’ll stay for 10 years and where I’ll win trophies”.
That’s not to say he’s already looking for a way out, but with every footballer comes their own ambitions, and that so happens to be his, knowing full well he can perhaps aim higher if he works hard.
