Fenerbahce congress member Murat Zorlu claims Fenerbahce are very close to completing a deal for Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil ahead of the January transfer window.
The 32-year-old was left out of Arsenal’s Premier League and Europa League squads for the first half of this season and has repeatedly been linked with a move away from the club.
Fenerbahce have been been tracking Ozil for almost two years, with dreams of signing the Arsenal outcast, and Zorlu has informed Sport Digitale the Turkish side are now looking to get the player in the new year: “A source, who’s very well connected to the club has told me that Mesut Ozil is likely to become a Fenerbahce player during the next transfer window. I would say 90% he will join us in one month.”
Ozil has made it no secret in the past that he’s a Fenerbahce fan, and that he would like to play for his boyhood club at some stage in his career. Throughout the last window there were reports he could head to the Super Lig, but he remained at the Emirates.
The former Germany international has also been linked with a move to MLS in recent months.
Ozil’s contract with the Gunners will expire at the end of the season, but according to Zorlu a move to Istanbul could happen sooner rather than later.
