Back in West Ham United’s first-team following a severe injury, Angelo Ogbonna got his first minutes of the season in the 3-1 win over Viborg FF in the Conference League qualifiers.

He has yet to play in the Premier League, however, as David Moyes manages the 34-year-old’s return carefully.

Ogbonna sat down with Gazzetta dello Sport on Wednesday to discuss various topics, including his fitness and the recent arrival of another Italian in the West Ham squad, Gianluca Scamacca.

On the first topic, the defender explained he feels ‘stronger every day’, even though his rehabilitation ‘never ends’.

He still made it clear there is no desire to rush a return at the top level just yet, but the first outing of the season was certainly ‘positive’ in his eyes.

As for Scamacca, the West Ham defender described the striker as a ‘very interesting guy’ and he firmly believes the Premier League ‘can be a launching pad for him’, where he will be able to fully showcase his attributes.

He’s willing to help him, of course, stating: “Off the pitch, I try to help new signings. Naturally, with Gianluca being Italian, it’s easier for me. I hope he can do well.”

Signed for £32.4m from Sassuolo, Scamacca has found the back of the net once for West Ham since arriving, coming in the win over Viborg FF.

He has made three Premier League appearances as well, but has yet to start a game in England’s top-tier, where West Ham sit bottom of the table with no goals scored and five conceded.
