Werder Bremen striker Claudio Pizarro has admitted his disappointment at not being able to work with Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp but hopes to rectify that in future.
41-year-old Pizarro has worked with some of the games most successful managers during a long career that’s seen him turn out for the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea and of course Werder Bremen.
At Bayern Munich, he managed 43 appearances under Pep Guardiola, who he describes as someone who ‘‘broadened’’ his horizons.
A short stint at Chelsea also saw him working under José Mourinho, a manager who Pizarro says was a ‘‘good coach’’, particularly in the support he would show for his players.
“Unfortunately Jürgen Klopp is missing from the list, I have never been allowed to work with him,’’ he told Weser-Kurier.
“That would have appealed to me very much. I hope that I can get to know Klopp in the future and that I can also see his training sessions.
“Without a doubt, I would have liked it very much to work with such a trainer. I find Klopp totally exciting from a player’s perspective.”
Whether Pizarro ever gets his wish and is allowed to observe Klopp up close remains to be seen.
If anyone would grant such a wish, it would be the Liverpool manager, who is undoubtedly one of the more accommodating bosses in the game at present.
For now, he’ll be focused on finishing his playing career, which by this summer will have been extended to its 20th year.
