Despite being linked with a move away from Brentford over the summer, Saïd Benrahma never left Griffin Park, staying put to help the Championship club in their quest for promotion to the Premier League.
Scoring 10 goals and assisting teammates 15 times in the league last season, the Algeria international showed a huge amount of promise in his first campaign in England, and was set to be a part of his country’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations before injury struck.
Slowly but surely returning to Brentford’s first-team, the 24-year-old started the 3-0 win over Derby before being substituted in the 83rd minute, and was recalled to his national team to by Djamel Belmadi for the international break.
Delighted to once again be part of the Algeria set up, Benrahma sat down for an interview with Le Buteur, who asked him about his first year in England.
He said: “I feel like I’ve progressed loads. I’ve become more and more mature. I’m now better on the pitch because I’ve worked a lot in England. Now, I feel far more comfortable on the pitch than before.
“I don’t plan on stopping there, however. In fact, I want to become even better to then be able to help the national team”.
The winger, who can play on the left or the right of the attack, could be a huge asset for his country if he can start regularly, as an attack consisting of Islam Slimani, Riyad Mahrez and an in-form Saïd Benrahma would be a daunting task for most defences.
He just needs to stay injury free and recapture last season’s form first.
