Joachim Andersen returned to Fulham late in the summer transfer window and signed a long term five-year deal at Craven Cottage.
Fulham paid £30m to sign him from Crystal Palace and the defender has already made his debut, featuring in the League Cup tie against Birmingham City.
The move came out of nowhere and that’s exactly how Andersen himself experienced it, as he explained when speaking to Ekstra Bladet whilst on international duty with Denmark.
“It happened a bit suddenly. I didn’t expect to switch to Fulham either, to be completely honest,” said Andersen.
“But approx three weeks ago they came up with a nice offer and it’s something to consider. You shouldn’t rule anything out in football.”
“There were some disagreements about a new contract at Palace, and there I saw an opportunity to come in and contribute something at Fulham. I spent three years at Palace and I was incredibly happy. It was a difficult choice, and in the end it’s all about gut feeling.”
The defender has already hit back at critics that have questioned why he moved back to Fulham and it does seem as if the ex-Lyon man is quite happy with his decision.
In his previous stint at the club, Andersen had played every game bar three and became a very reliable figure at the back. The club’s hope will be that he does that once again this season.
