Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has insisted they still believe they can finish in the top four this season but will need to keep up the ‘intensity’ they showed against Arsenal.

The Dutchman issued his rallying cry to ViaPlay, relayed by Voetbal Primeur, after the draw with the Gunners on Sunday.

Liverpool hosted the league leaders Arsenal at Anfield over the weekend in a huge game for both sides in the end of season run in.

The game proved to be as exciting as many predicted it would, with Arsenal racing into a 2-0 lead in the first-half hour with a superb display that appeared to be further confirmation of their title credentials.

Liverpool never gave up, though, with Mohamed Salah getting his side back into the game in the 42nd minute and setting up a thrilling second half.

Indeed, only two superb late saves from Aaron Ramsdale stopped them from winning, with the home side flying and showing that there is still plenty left in the tank.

That is certainly what Gakpo believes, insisting that Jurgen Klopp’s side have not given up hope of finishing in the top four this season.

“This is a step in the right direction,” he said.

“Now it’s up to us to continue with this. We have to keep up the intensity and make sure we get more points.

“We have to play every game like the second half against Arsenal. Without belief, you can’t start anything. Definitely, I believe in it. We still believe in it and that is our goal.”
