Barcelona midfielder Gavi ‘doesn’t know anything’ about a possible transfer to Chelsea, despite claims that the Blues are keen on his signature.
That’s according to Sport, who say that the midfielder’s agent has met with Chelsea but ‘for other matters’ and to not discuss a transfer.
The newspaper explains that Gavi has naturally garnered plenty of attention because of the performances he’s been putting in for Barcelona at such a young age, never mind the trophies that he’s been winning as recognition of it.
That has ‘drawn the attention’ of the big clubs in Europe but it does not mean the youngster is considering playing for a team other than Barcelona.
That includes Chelsea, with whom he ‘has not maintained any contact’ despite reports stating that they were interested in him.
He’s delighted with being made a central part of the system under Xavi and ‘does not imagine or consider’ playing for another team. He and his advisors are also convinced the club will find a formula so that they can register his new contract with La Liga.
Sport can now confirm that neither Barcelona nor the player have received ‘any proposal or survey’ from Chelsea, despite reports his agent has met with the Blues.
That meeting apparently took place three weeks ago in Madrid but was actually a ‘first contact’ to discuss the options for Luis Enrique Martínez, who is on the list of candidates Chelsea are looking at to take charge in the summer.
That meeting continued last week, with Iván de la Peña, Gavi’s agent, travelling to London for a new exchange of views with Chelsea alongside Enrique. Gavi’s name never came up in the course of that conversation.
That, then, should put an end to this transfer rumour, with Sport insisting that it was baseless to start with and Gavi’s representatives clearly keen to emphasise that.
