Thursday’s front page of the Het Belang van Limburg sport section couldn’t be clearer. Chelsea are set to offer Eden Hazard a mega deal to make him forget about a possible Real Madrid transfer.

Hazard is repeatedly linked with swapping Chelsea for Real Madrid, with manager Zinedine Zidane a long term admirer of the Belgian international. Real Madrid have no glaring need for Hazard and it would take a huge financial effort, so there’s every chance that right now Zidane has other priorities.

Nevertheless, it can’t be put past Florentino Perez to sign a Galactico for the sake of it, and Chelsea are wise to try and tie Hazard down for as long as possible. Het Belang van Screen Shot 2017-03-30 at 12.55.11Limburg say the Premier League leaders will try and get Hazard to extend his contract until 2022.

That would take Hazard to the age of 31, and see Chelsea have the player well secured for what should be the best years of the player’s career.

The bait for him to commit for longer is a huge deal worth €350k per week. That would make Hazard one of the best paid players in the world, and he certainly wouldn’t be tempted to move to Madrid out of unhappiness over his Chelsea wages.
