West Ham United fans should now have a good reason to get excited about what’s being said about Edson Alvarez in the Dutch media.
The situation of the Ajax star was today discussed at De Telegraaf’s Kick-off podcast, and there, journalist Mike Verweij had interesting things to say about the player’s future.
The claims, via Ajax Showtime, show that West Ham stand in a favourable position to land the 25-year-old, as the Hammers seem to have a green light from club and player.
“He’s going. Dortmund had an outline agreement with Álvarez about five seasons, but pulled the plug himself because there was still disagreement within the club. West Ham first wants an agreement with Ajax and then meet with Álvarez. It should be noted that Álvarez has been given an indication of what he can earn in London and that should not pose a problem,” said Verweij.
The journalist also claimed that Ajax are expected to make €40m with Alvarez’s sale, despite their initial higher requests.
It was by the end of June that the Dutch media reported that Borussia Dortmund were pulling out of the race for Alvarez, and that apparently left the path open for West Ham to go and get him.
Following this news, it was soon claimed that Ajax and the player were waiting for other clubs to ‘take action’ for the signing. And with the Hammers standing alone in the race, that was basically a message for them to make the move.
