Four days ago, Star Gazetesi reported Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is very keen on Fenerbahçe’s Sebastian Szymański and that the north London club will do everything to sign him next summer.
It was also said Spurs would need around €35m to secure the attacking midfielder’s services.
The Tottenham target joined the Yellow Canaries from Dynamo Moscow last summer and has starred this season, scoring 12 goals and registering 14 assists from 34 games.
Former Poland international Radosław Kałużny is a commentator for Przegląd Sportowy and he’s been discussing Szymański with the newspaper’s journalist Marcin Dobosz. They talked about the player’s development and the recent claims of the Premier League side’s interest.
With regards to the Spurs rumours, Kałużny has backed the 24-year-old to make a switch to England.
“I already told you then that it would be nice if he went to England or Spain, although I pointed to Manchester United or Barcelona,” he said.
Dobosz has concerns over whether Fenerbahçe midfielder has the physicality to adapt to the needs of Premier League football.
“I’m serious – Sebastian looks calm on the pitch, as if he knew everything that was happening around him in four letters. However, this is only an appearance. And he didn’t need much time to acclimatise anywhere.”
However, Kałużny has no concerns about Szymański’s physicality if Tottenham or another Premier League side were to secure his services.
“Coming back to Szymański – if he found his way in the Premier League and continued to pass and shoot brilliantly, we would be dealing with Mr. Football. I know that in Sebastian’s case there is some discussion about his frail physical condition, but I wouldn’t worry about that,” Kałużny added.
“Sebastian is an intelligent player. He can position himself properly, he’s comfortable in pressing, the ball looks for him and, above all, it does not bother him because he’s technically advanced.”
Kałużny believes playing with better players at Tottenham would naturally be a benefit, and help him raise his own level.
“Let’s remember that in a team like Tottenham he’ll have much better players around him than in any of his previous clubs. There’s no doubt that he would play better, easier. Truly, such a transfer would be an exciting adventure and challenge for Sebastian himself, as well as for us – the fans,” he added.
