Hajduk Split’s Hysen Memolla was a big fan of Wayne Rooney before the Everton match last week, and he’s now an even bigger fan.
Memolla and the Everton player were randomly picked by UEFA for doping control, and sat together in a room eating pizza, and drinking.
Whilst waiting for nature to run its course, 25 year old Memolla got the chance to chat to a player he’d looked up to as a youngster, and found Rooney to be open and friendly.
After being starstruck, the Hajduk player had a chat with Rooney, and has spoken to 24Sata about it: “Everton officials were constantly there, they offered dry clothes, slippers, drinks… He asked me about the family, and how hot is it in Croatia. The ordinary things anyone would ask. Really great guy.
“We ate pizza, drank, but I mostly talked to him. He told me it’s natural for players to be impressed when 45,000 fans scream at Goodison, that he was the one who debuted, but I laughed and told him that he would just see what a real atmosphere is like in Poljud. He laughed and asked me why, and I told him that the best fans in the world were waiting for him.”
Wayne Rooney had already swapped his shirt with another Hajduk player, so this time Memolla will have be quick to get the Everton player’s jersey.
Despite the Croatian team losing, Memolla, a 25 year old Albanian defender, still managed to leave Goodison Park with good memories.
