It’s just been a few days since the start of the Edinson Cavani saga, and the many reports from Argentina make it feel like it’s an old story already.

There’s been a little war between those who believe he’s signing for Boca Juniors in the summer, including his father, and some outlets who get anonymous sources saying he’s staying at Manchester United.

Well, the latest updates now come from TNT. Journalist Henan Castillo said live on TV that according to his information, Cavani’s plan is to play for the Red Devils at least until December 2022.

That’s the date of the World Cup in Qatar, and that’s what his source, who’s said to be very close to the player and lives in his home city Salto, told him.

Even though Hernan Castillo doesn’t want to sound so certain about the information, claiming this saga has been having many changes, he insists that his source from Uruguay is very good.

The Uruguayan media has indeed been the one claiming Cavani is staying at Manchester United until the World Cup. The reason for it is not clear, and perhaps he’d like to get to the tournament keeping his form in European football.

Cavani’s deal with the Red Devils expires in June 2021, and a clause in the contract allows it to be extended until June 2022. So in case the claims about the World Cup are true, he’d have to find a new agreement with the club.
