For Taiwo Awoniyi, there’s only one goal in his mind right now, and that’s eventually playing for Liverpool.
The young Nigerian, who signed a contract at Anfield in 2015, is currently on loan at Royal Excel Mouscron in Belgium, where he’s trying to get enough game time to catch the eye of his national team’s manager in order to get caps to get a work permit.
Until that happens, he’ll have to make do with loans abroad, but as he told Le Soir, that’s not something that bothers him if the end goal is achieved.
He said: “God willing. This club where I signed three years ago, who’s one of the safe bets of the Premier League, and one that excites me, gives me a buzz”.
Capable of playing on the wing as well as through the middle, the 20-year-old will soon be facing Anderlecht, where another Liverpool player, Lazar Markovic, is currently on loan.
While the Serbian, because of underlying fitness issues, will not be playing, there’s a good chance he’ll be at the stadium, and it’ll be a chance for the Reds’ loanees to finally say hello to each other.
Awoniyi continued: “I’ve never met Markovic, but maybe we’ll get talk about maybe playing one day at Anfield together (laughs)”.
While nothing is impossible, considering how things are going for the former Benfica starlet, we highly doubt that.
For Awoniyi, however, there’s still a good chance of a Liverpool future.
