It’s been a while since the links between Nottingham Forest and Braga goalkeeper disappeared, but that story was last night brought back by the Portuguese media.

Following the Champions League clash against Panathinaikos, the 31-year-old had a word with the local press, and as relayed by Record, he ended up getting asked about the Tricky Trees’ interest.

The goalkeeper made it clear that a move to Nottingham Forest does not cross his mind at his stage, as he’s completely focused on doing a good season with Braga.

“When the president said he didn’t want me to leave, I immediately cleared my head,” said Matheus.

“I want to contribute and help this club to make history. I’ve been dedicating myself to the maximum to make history, because that’s what remains, the legacy, and fortunately I’ve been able to leave that mark. Is it true that I stay? Yes, yes, it is my will and that of the president.”

The links between Nottingham Forest and Matheus started in June, when it was first claimed that the Reds had placed a €4.5m offer for the goalkeeper.

With the Premier League side claimed to have an ‘immense desire’ to sign him, it was even said that bid was then raised to €10m, and that was still not enough to convince Braga.

The offer was said to be tempting enough to attract Matheus, but with the club not willing to sell, it seems he didn’t want to force his way out.
