We all know Pep Guardiola likes his goalkeepers to be able to kick the ball accurately. Just ask Joe Hart.

After all, his decision to bring in Ederson from Benfica was largely due to the fact the Brazilian is very good with his feet, as well as being a good goalkeeper on top of that.

With him at the club as well as Claudio Bravo, Willy Caballero had to find himself a new landing spot, and he ended up south of Manchester, in London, with Chelsea.

The Argentinian agreed to play backup to Thibaut Courtois, and has been given a fair shot in the cups, as well as a start against Brighton in the league.

In an interview with Olé, the Chelsea goalkeeper revealed Antonio Conte decided to change his approach since being in charge at Stamford Bridge, one he’s very happy with.

He explained: “I like to read the game and come out of my goal if the situation demands it. Ending up as the libero with the ball in my feet is something I like and had done with Pep. Conte liked that and that’s why he changed.

“At Juventus, he didn’t ask Buffon to leave the area, but with Courtois, we’ve been practicing coming out and cutting an opponent’s attack when the send those long balls behind the backs of our defenders”.

After all, if you’ve got a couple of goalkeepers comfortable on the ball, why wouldn’t you?

Since his arrival at the club, Caballero has kept four clean sheets in nine appearances.
