Newcastle United are about to lose the race for the Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina, according to reports from Italy today.

As written by Calciomercato.it, the 35-year-old is close on agreeing a deal with AC Milan, who are offering him a two-year contract and an interesting bonus.

With his contract with Napoli expiring at the end of the season, Reina will be free to move in the summer, since the club has no intention to keep him.

The website makes it clear that there’s no full agreement so far, but as the negotiations seem to be going well, it’s very likely that the Spaniard will end up signing for Milan.

That’s bad news for any other club who would be interested in signing the goalkeeper this summer, including Newcastle United.

The Magpies would be alongside Paris Saint Germain in the waiting list, but these clubs would only have a chance in case the deal with Milan completely collapses.
