Manchester United are ‘still interested’ in Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer this summer, should he be allowed to leave the Bavarian giants.

That’s according to journalist Christian Falk, who says Sommer has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ that he can leave Bayern in the summer if Manuel Neuer returns as number one.

Sommer joined Bayern from Borussia Mönchengladbach in an €8m deal in January as a replacement for Neuer, who had broken his leg on a skiing trip.

He signed a deal until June 2025, but it remains to be seen if he sees out that deal, particularly when Neuer returns from his injury and presumably takes the number one spot once again.

Falk reports an exit is certainly possible as he has an agreement with Bayern that he can leave if Neuer is reinstated. Should that happen, Manchester United are still interested in his signature.

They were linked with a move for Sommer throughout December and, indeed, before then, with David de Gea having struggled for his best form under Erik ten Hag this season.

He was also due to be out of contract in the summer but is now signing an extension, although that has not stopped the idea of Manchester United signing another goalkeeper who better fits what their manager wants.

Whether that is Sommer is debatable, but it seems he remains on the radar nonetheless, particularly if Bayern sanction an exit this summer.
