Borussia Dortmund were close to a move for Fulham youngster Timmy Abraham, brother of Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham.
That’s according to Ruhr Nachrichten, who say that the deal ended up failing due to ‘legal subtleties’.
The newspaper explain that Dortmund were in agreement with the Fulham youngster, who has four goals for their youth team.
The plan was for him to join Dortmund’s Under 23 team, becoming the fourth Englishman to join the club after Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens – where he could ‘promote’ himself to the senior side.
However, they failed to get the deal over the line, and it’s now uncertain whether they will return for him in January.
That has not been ‘conclusively clarified’ at this point, but it will depend heavily on the current U23 squad.
Moritz Broschinski is expected to be fully fit again soon after suffering a metatarsal fracture at the end of August, and Dortmund chiefs have high hopes for the 20-year-old. If he can bounce back, there would be little need for Abraham.
Still the interest is there in the Fulham man, and Dortmund had even tried to get a purchase option on him, although that was nowhere near the €2.2m reported elsewhere.
Ultimately a move never happened, but it would not be surprising to see his name associated with the Bundesliga side in the near future.
