As Fulham continue with their quest to sign a new centre-back, they now reportedly made an offer for Benfica defender Morato.

As reported by Portuguese outlet Jornal de Notícias, Marco Silva’s side made an attempt by putting €17m plus bonuses on the table.

Fulham’s bid, however, was already turned down by Benfica, who consider Morato to be one of the most important pieces in Roger Schmidt’s squad for the coming season.

According to Jornal de Notícias, the Whites had already placed a €12m bid and now showed up with €5m more. Even though the second attempt wasn’t succesful, it’s said the club already told the Eagles they’re not giving up on the signing, and will be back with a new bid.

Marco Silva is clearly engaged in a big mission for a new central defender. Just this week, there have been reports of Fulham’s attempts to sign Morato from Benfica, Igor from Fiorentina and Roger Ibanez from AS Roma.

It’s starting to look like all of them would cost over €20m, and it seems the Whites are testing the ground to see who’ll be the cheapest.
