One of the areas Barcelona want to strengthen in the next transfer window is the attacking position.
Mundo Deportivo claims Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez, Sevilla’s André Silva and Eintracht Frankfurt star Luka Jovic have been identified as targets, but the front page report claims ‘Maxi is now favourite’ ahead of Silva.
We take a look at the case with the aforementioned players and start with the Uruguayan, who joined Celta two years ago.
Sources close to Mundo claim the La Liga winners are in a better position to sign the attacker, who they believe would be the right fit to become Luis Suarez’s successor at Camp Nou.
Gomez shares a good relationship with the former Liverpool star as they are expected to share a similar role with Uruguay and the latter could help the Celta star to adjust to life at Barcelona, if he decides to join them.
The only problem to sign Gomez is his €50m release clause and his club are unwilling to reduce the price because there are aware others are also keen to take him away from Celta.
Silva, who is currently on loan at Sevilla from AC Milan, has impressed in Spain and Pablo Machín’s side have an option to sign him on a permanent deal for €35m. If Sevilla have to then sell, the the entire operation could be complex.
Jovic is another target, who is also attracting interest from Real Madrid. Ernesto Valverde’s side have held talks with his agents, just like they generally do with other agents too, but nothing materialised from the meeting.
France Football reported that Barcelona are following Lille’s Nicolas Pepe and Rafael Leão and sources from the club told Mundo about their interest in these two players.
Barcelona have five players as possible targets and the report claims Gomez is ‘now favourite’, but only his €50m asking price could be an issue.
