Stéphane Sessègnon, who was released by West Bromwich Albion at the end of last season, has been speaking to French newspaper L’Equipe.

Sessègnon signed a two year contract at Montpellier this summer, but there was also interest from Burnley.

The 32-year-old accepts it was a difficult decision to make.

He said: “Yes, it’s true. I needed three days to think because I didn’t see it coming. When you play in a championship like the Premier League, you ask a lot of questions at the time of returning to France.”

When asked about Chelsea and Liverpool, the former West Brom player said: “It’s still a great experience. When you‘re a player, you dream of playing at the big clubs, but I‘m not going to complain about my career. There are so many people who would like to do this job.”

Despite not getting to play for Chelsea or Liverpool, Sessègnon spent 7 years in England at Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion, making 185 appearances and scoring 26 goals.

It’s not bad really.
