Sheffield Wednesday are more likely than most Championship clubs to look toward the Portuguese market for new signings, because their manager is Carlos Carvalhal.

Very well respected in Portugal, and with a great knowledge of how players come through academies in in his home country, Carvalhal’s network is of benefit to Sheffield Wednesday.

Saturday’s edition of Portuguese newspaper A Bola says that Sheffield Wednesday had a representative at the match between Vitoria Setubal and Rio Ave. It’s in A Bola’s match report and Sheffield Wednesday weren’t the only club in attendance on Friday night.

Fellow English sides Manchester United and Arsenal were there, along with Eibar, Bordeaux, Lille, Nice, Lens, Saint Etienne, PSV, FC Koln, Genoa, Trabzonspor, PAOK and Steaua București.

Quite a collection.

A Bola don’t claim to know who Sheffield Wednesday, or anyone else for that matter, were watching but they say the ‘espioes’ were eyeing up potential signings.
