Following Manchester United’s defeat to Leicester City at the weekend, we’ve seen more people urging the club to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, consequently linking other managers to the job.
One of the candidates for the position would be Antonio Conte, who according to reports from Italy, would like to take charge of the club while there’s still time to make a recovery this season.
Carrying on with that story, we now see claims saying the former Inter Milan boss would already have a target to follow him on the way to Old Trafford.
According to Fichajes, ‘the first signing in Conte’s mind’ is Nicolo Barella, who was part of his title winning campaign for the Nerazzurri last season.
The outlet points out that Inter Milan are currently working to extend the midfielder’s contract, and while Conte is aware of that, he’ll still have the player as a ‘priority signing’ in case he indeed moves to Old Trafford.
We’re talking about an Italian manager and an Italian player from an Italian club being linked to a move to an English side, so it’s of course strange to see those claims suddenly coming from Spain.
Manchester United have been linked to Barella by the Italian media before, but that move was never related to Conte’s arrival at the Red Devils.
