One of the big question marks for the Argentina national team right now ahead of the World Cup is the fitness of Giovani Lo Celso.

The Tottenham player, currently out on loan at Villarreal, picked up an injury last week, and everyone has been sweating about it ever since.

While the La Liga side are without a key player, it’s his national team who are most worried, as they would like him to play in Qatar; something the Spurs loanee also wants.

That’s because, as pointed out by Varsky Sports, the player is ‘irreplaceable’ for Lionel Scaloni because of ‘his influence’ on the team.

Down their end, Tottenham want him to get surgery on his injury, because they care mostly about his long-term health, knowing they are likely to recover him at the end of the campaign.

Lo Celso is fighting that, because he wants to try an alternative route to try and make it to the World Cup, and it remains to be seen what happens.

As per César Luis Merlo, who relays all the information above, the ‘final decision’ regarding the Tottenham midfielder will be taken ‘in a few days’.

When that is isn’t made fully clear, but El Chiringuito, via the journalist Ana Garcés, claim Villarreal will run a final test on Lo Celso ‘on Monday’.

It seems that then, and only then, will we know what his chances of making the World Cup are, as slim as they currently are.
