Brazilian left-back Filipe Luis is happy for having the chance to play with Diego Costa once again.

The striker’s transfer from Chelsea back to Atletico Madrid has been confirmed by the clubs, after being reported by the Spanish media on Thursday morning.

Shortly after the announcement, Filipe Luís was interviewed by the Spanish press, and showed his satisfaction with the signing: “I am proud that the club is doing all this. An impressive stadium, wanting to grow more and more, to be up top, to fight for all titles.” (via Mundo Deportivo)

“I say I am proud because a great effort has been made to bring one of the three best strikers in the world. Wherever he’s gone he has made history, he has been champion. He comes to triumph and fight for something big and make us all better around him. I’m very glad that my friend is back here and now we welcome him in the best possible way.”

The former Chelsea player also claimed he understood how difficult it would’ve been for the London side to let such a star go: “Chelsea are also a great club and don’t want to let go of anyone.

“Any club in the world would not want to give up but Diego’s desire to come was bigger than anything. Any club-player divorce is difficult, neither club were in a hurry to close the operation, so it has been delayed, I think, but in the end what we all wanted has been fulfilled. Diego returns home, returns to be happy, Chelsea are good with Morata… Having Diego and letting him go shouldn’t be easy.”

Filipe Luis and Diego Costa had been teammates at Atletico Madrid between 2010 and 2014. In that World Cup year, both made their way to Chelsea.

But things didn’t work out very well for Filipe in London, as he only spent one season at Chelsea and then returned to Atletico. And now it’s time to be joined by his friend.
