Romeo Lavia could be set for a period on the treatment table after picking up an injury in training with Chelsea today.

That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who says there are fears the player could have suffered a ‘muscle tear’ in his ankle.

Lavia joined Chelsea in a big money move from Southampton this summer as part of the Blues continued spending to improve their squad.

At one point he found himself as part of a tug of war between Chelsea and Liverpool, with the former eventually winning the race and securing his signature for €62.10m.

The hope had been he would form part of a new, dynamic midfield three with Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

Tavolieri reports that Lavia ‘just got injured’ in a training session with Chelsea today and initial concerns are that it ‘could be a muscle tear at the ankle’.

That appears to be an initial assessment more than anything else at this moment in time, with Chelsea presumably trying to get Lavia scanned and tested as soon as possible to get a more detailed outlook.

It seems they are concerned, though, that their summer signing could be set for a period on the treatment table.
