Marcelo Pitaluga’s transfer to Liverpool made some Fluminense fans quite unhappy at the weekend.

A group of supporters went to the club’s headquarters to protest against the sales the club has agreed over the past couple of weeks.

Fluminense have just lost the 17-year-old on a deal which will initially cost Liverpool just €1m. They’ve also said goodbye to Evanilson, who signed for Porto last week.

As reported by Globo Esporte, fans brought banners calling the club an ‘outlet store’, as well as others questioning their relationship with Brazilian agents.

The same website reports that Marcelo Pitaluga travelled to England on Saturday, and is ready to sign a three-year deal with Liverpool. He visited Flu’s training centre before then, to say goodbye to teammates and staff before flying to Europe.

Liverpool are initially paying €1m for the move, and another €1m depends on performance bonuses. Fluminense will be entitled to 25% of a future transfer.

“I’m very grateful to Fluminense. It was 10 years in the club, from futsal, passing through Xerém, until reaching the professionals,” Marcelo Pitaluga told the club’s website.

“I’ve always been treated very well and had all the assistance necessary for my development, both personally and as an athlete. This opportunity that came up will be very important to me. It was a unique opportunity, mainly because I have a European passport.”
