Following Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Real Betis in the Europa League round-of-16 last night, Brazilian outlet TNT Sports managed to have a word with Antony.

The 23-year-old scored a beautiful goal in the win, and despite a couple of clear chances where he maybe could have done better, he had a good display against the Spanish side.

The interview was mostly based on Manchester United’s reaction after the 7-0 defeat to Liverpool at the weekend, with reporter Fred Caldeira asking how the squad managed to bounce back from such a difficult defeat.

It turns out that Antony credited a lot of it to the club’s fans, claiming he was happy to see Old Trafford packed and showing big support for the team in the following game.

“Man, a defeat against Liverpool in the classic was very painful. It was hard, it was hard to sleep that day. But we can’t keep regretting about the mistake. We know that it’s a result, a defeat, that we cannot accept. Never. But it is important for us to give this answer as well and demonstrate our greatness,” Antony told TNT Sports.

“Very happy for the fans too and for the support everyone gave us today. Always with 72, 73 thousand fans inside that stadium. So as I always say, it’s our fuel. And seeing the fans believing, singing and supporting us, we can get results. So we are very happy today for the victory. I’m very happy to be able to score too. And we will continue, because as I said, United is very big and we will put it where it deserves.”

Asked if he had any doubts about how the fans would react to the defeat in this following match, Antony claims he knew everything was fine by the way they supported the squad at the weekend.

“Man, this fanbase is incredible. Ever since the Liverpool game. After the game, we went to applaud and they applauded us and sang United. It really gave me goosebumps. And I’m very happy to have these fans here cheering for us. So we get a bit in doubt but actually I wasn’t, because of the Liverpool game, seeing the fans supporting us. And like I said, it’s a very tough defeat, but we have to turn the page, we already beat Betis today, which was a very difficult game. Now we think about Sunday at Southampton, which is a great game too. And I have no doubt that they will pack it again, they will bring the fuel that we need to keep on winning streaks.”

After scoring on Thursday, Antony now has seven goals and one assist in 28 appearances for Manchester United, and continues to work to show his best at Old Trafford.
