Since the news emerged on Sunday evening that Lazio were interested in signing Jack Clarke from Sunderland, the Italian media have been a bit flabbergasted at the demands emanating from the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats have been said to want between €25-30m for their star winger, which the Serie A side aren’t prepared to pay, having put forward €16m instead.
That was rejected by Sunderland, whose stance appears to have worked, because Corriere dello Sport believe Lazio have moved on.
They title their article by describing the move for Clarke as a ‘failed assault’, and the belief now is the Italian club’s chances of getting the winger have ‘vanished’.
It’s explained that Sunderland’s ‘very high’ demands certainly didn’t help, and they add the fact the former Tottenham youngster ‘dreams’ of playing in the Premier League.
Not ideal, at least for them. Very ideal for Sunderland.
Jack Clarke | Claims continue in Italy
• Sunderland's asking price still being presented as lower than it likely is
• This often happens when Serie A clubs are interested in Championship players, there's often the belief transfers can be done much more cheaply than they… pic.twitter.com/Fy1BSIG317
