‘Everything indicates’ that Brighton and Hove Albion target Piero Quispe will be leaving current club Universitario next year, with the player sending a farewell message to the club’s fans.

That’s according to journalist Gustavo Peralta Coelho, who recently interviewed the youngster for L1 Radio following their 2-0 win in the Grand Final of the Primera Division in Peru.

Quispe has long been linked with a move away from the Peruvian side, with several clubs in the Premier League thought to be keen on him.

Brighton are chief among them, with reports throughout this year consistently linking them with a move after claims of a €10m bid were rejected.

Since then, there has been growing speculation that they want the 22-year-old and journalist Christian Martín reported at the end of last month that they were regularly sending scouts to Peru to watch him play.

Whether Brighton were in attendance for his last game of the season isn’t known but speaking after that game, the player appeared to indicate that his time with Universitario was coming to an end.

“Ehhh, I just have to thank the people for the love they have always given me and all my colleagues,” he said when asked directly if he was leaving or staying in 2024.

“Only God knows what will happen next year and I just want to thank all the people for so much support.

“Thank you all, for all the love, for all the support you have given us and not only to me but to all the colleagues. This championship is for you who deserve it so much.”
