After a couple of articles claiming that Everton are interested in signing midfielder Bruno Fernandes from Sporting, Portuguese newspaper A Bola brings a story today saying the transfer is unlikely to happen.

First, they claim they could ‘confirm’ the chase, saying the Toffees’ wish to sign the player could become ‘effective’ in January.

However, Fernandes would not be so keen on joining the club. The reason is he would like to play for a club with bigger aspirations.

The midfielder’s idea is to fight for titles and for places in European tournaments, and he wants to do so every year.

A Bola says that Sporting are not keen on selling either. Fernandes is the only player protected by a €100m release clause, and selling him now would mean they’re giving up on their biggest goals of the season.

That’s why it doesn’t matter if it will be Everton or other club, Fernandes’ sale is more likely to be made in the summer.
