Everton held ‘long talks’ with Fabio Cannavaro this morning regarding their vacant managerial position.
That’s according to Il Mattino, who follow up their report from earlier this week that Cannavaro was on the shortlist of candidates being looked at to replace Rafa Benitez.
That was followed by a report from Gazzetta Dello Sport today that stated Cannavaro had been ‘sounded out’ about the position.
They say that Everton, specifically their directors, held ‘long talks’ with Cannavaro this morning, and as a result, the Italian is ‘emerging with force’ as a candidate for them.
Cannavaro rejected an offer from Poland last week and has now ‘illustrated his project’ for Everton. In other words, his plan to turn them around.
At this moment in time, he is ‘neck and neck’ with Wayne Rooney for the position, but there is one major issue with the Derby County boss.
It’s felt that he wouldn’t have the ‘support’ of some of the big names in Everton’s dressing room, which could lead Cannavaro to opt for an ‘independent choice’, hence the contact with Cannavaro.
