Rennes have joined the race to sign FC Porto forward Vincent Aboubakar, according to claims in France. The Cameroon international has been transfer listed by the Portuguese club, and also been linked with a move to Everton in recent weeks.
Rennes’ new coach Christian Gourcuff is hoping to bring in a big signing before the transfer deadline, and Aboubakar could be the player the French side look to sign.
The forward has already turned down a lucrative move to China because he would prefer to return to France, where he had spell with Rennes’ local rivals Lorient.
Earlier in this transfer window we covered reports from Portugal that Everton were interested in Aboubakar, and could look to open talks with FC Porto.
The player’s contract with Porto runs until 2018, but his club will listen to offers for the 24-year-old. Aboubakar has a €50m buy out in his contract, but it’s very unlikely either Everton or Rennes would be willing to pay this.
