Everton fans probably remember how the club were constantly linked with Benfica striker Raul Jimenez in the summer.

The rumours became quite odd when saying the Eagles would demand up to €50m for him, with the claimed Everton had offered €45m. It didn’t make any sense because Jimenez was, and still is, just a bench player.

But the situation seems to have changed a lot now, as even the Lisbon press reckons that his price has probably gone down lately.

Newspaper A Bola has a story explaining the players who have been ‘in clear market devaluation’, and Jimenez is one of them.

Despite not being a starter, the Mexican international has been having some decent game time in Lisbon, with 20 appearances made this season. But his performances won’t help, and with only two goals, his form has been far from impressive.

That’s why it could make sense for Benfica to sell him for a reasonable price now, as no other club would be fooled into believing he’s worth €50m.

Everton have scouted Benfica five times this season, so there’s definitely something interesting for the Toffees at the Estádio da Luz.

Is it Jimenez? As we’ve said countless times, at anything over €35m, maybe €30m, Everton really shouldn’t be interested, but maybe a €20m gamble is worth it.
