Stuttgart chief Sven Mislintat has now hinted they will not be making another move for Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos, despite recently claiming they’d love to have him back.
The Greek defender is currently on loan with the German side until the end of the season, having been shipped out by Arsenal in the summer.
After an indifferent first half of the season, he has established himself among the club’s key players in the second half of the campaign.
They have indicated they would love to have him back at the club next season, although the player’s desire to stay at the Emirates long-term meant another loan deal was the most likely option.
That’s now seemingly changed, though, with Echo 24 reporting that he has told the German Press Agency, “I don’t see it as very likely at the moment” when asked about a second loan for the Arsenal man.
Quite why there has been this change in stance isn’t mentioned, but Echo speculate it may be something of a negotiating stance from Mislintat to either lower the price of the loan or even set up a permanent move.
The Swabians do not have a purchase option on the defender, and it’s always been stated they could not afford a permanent deal, with Mavropanos valued at €2.5m.
This, then, could be a move from Mislintat to bring either price down, with the summer transfer window set to be ‘exciting’ as far as the website are concerned.
