If you’ve paid attention to the transfer news surrounding Chelsea of late, you will have noticed a growing push to bring Marcos Alonso back to Spain.

The left-back remains the most regular starter under Frank Lampard these days, and yet a departure this summer could be on the cards as rumours of an interest in Atalanta’s Robin Gosens keep growing.

Sevilla are the main interested party when it comes to Alonso, but there remains a few obstacles in their way, namely financial ones.

Estadio Deportivo explain on Monday that with most of the funds set to be spent on other areas of the pitch, Monchi remains ‘vigilant’ about to Chelsea man’s situation, hoping that no big clubs come knocking before them.

However, they do have a number of things going in their favour, like the fact they have qualified for the Champions League.

Another, and perhaps very important one, is the ‘secret weapon no other club has’: Alonso’s father.

The Chelsea defender’s dad played at Sevilla between January 1999 and March 2000, and it’s said he ‘wants to see his son dressed’ in the club’s shirt.

For Sevilla, the most ideal scenario would be for Chelsea to agree to a loan ‘with an option to buy’, and they hope that can happen after Alonso was declared as transferrable.

As things stand, Monchi ‘is on the prowl’, waiting to see if the stars align for this move to be possible.
