Currently contracted at Rizespor in Turkey, Montassar Talbi will be moving to Benevento in the summer.
With a contract expiring in June, clubs were keen to snap up the 22-year-old centre-back, with the Serie A side beating a host of other prestigious sides to his signing.
Among those were Wolverhampton Wanderers, always active on the transfer market regardless of whether they are in dire need of anyone.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are known to gamble here and there on players, with the recent loan of Enzo Loiodice springing to mind, and they were ready to do so again with Talbi.
That’s according to Benevento’s director of football Pasquale Foggia, who spoke about the club’s dealings in January, ranging from the arrival of Adolfo Gaich to the future deal involving the defender.
This appears to be the first official confirmation of the deal following claims from Otto Pagine that a deal had been struck between the player and Benevento.
Either way, it appears Wolves missed out, and it could be that they weren’t able to guarantee him first-team football immediately, which is probably what Talbi will have been looking for.
