“He doesn’t know how to play football” – Backhanded compliment sent to Manchester City player

Erling Haaland continued to take the Premier League by storm at the weekend as he scored a hat-trick in Manchester City’s 6-3 victory over Manchester United.

The striker, who moved from Borussia Dortmund in the summer window, currently has 14 goals to his name in the competition. That’s twice the number his closest competitor Harry Kane has managed in the current campaign.

Already the runaway favourite to top the scoring charts at the end of the season, records are quickly being talked about as the Norwegian manages to even surpass the huge expectations he had around him.

Haaland is getting praise around the world sport media, but if there’s one man who can be counted on for an alternative view, it’s Antonio Cassano. The former enfant terrible of Italian football is now an outspoken pundit, and whilst he’s praised the Manchester City player, it’s something of a backhanded compliment.

Virgilo quote Cassano as questioning the City star’s all-round game: “Haaland is a Bobo Vieri mixed with Adriano. But if you notice, he doesn’t know how to play football like Benzema or Lewandowski. He is a great goalscorer, of course, but he doesn’t know how to play football. Inzaghi also didn’t know how to play football. He played with the phenomenon who put the ball in the middle and he scored with the shin, head, arm, go see his goals.”
