Earlier on Wednesday, we covered claims from France that Chelsea had made a verbal offer for Elye Wahi.

The young forward has been in fine form of late, scoring 19 goals in 33 Ligue 1 games last season, which caught the eye of the Blues, who had a plan to potentially sign him and loan him to Strasbourg.

Chelsea were said to be putting €25m on the table for the 20-year-old, with that amount including bonuses, but that won’t be enough, as explained by the French club’s president to Midi Libre.

Speaking to the local newspaper about the current transfer business that is taking place behind the scenes at Montpellier, Laurent Nicollin was rather candid.

Admitting there were only a few details left in the sale of Stephy Mavididi to Leicester, he was also asked about Chelsea’s bid for Wahi.

He acknowledged that the Blues had come forward for their star striker, and added: “But the amount offered didn’t meet our expectations.”

Therefore, it’s fair to say that Chelsea will need to add more money to the Wahi pot if they are to convince Montpellier of letting their star go to Stamford Bridge this summer.
