It’s not uncommon for Manchester United to bring in some players from around the world to see them up close in trials.
The Red Devils recently did that with a young Bosnian goalkeeper, and did so just over two years ago with a young Angolan winger named Zito Luvumbo.
He’s now at Cagliari in Serie B, where he is excelling and lighting up the league, with two goals and two assists in 10 games in all competitions.
Calciomercato have an article on the winger, and explain that he arrived in Italy two years ago, with an U17 World Cup appearance and a Manchester United trial on his CV.
Why didn’t he get a contract at Old Trafford? Because he was ‘a minor and non-EU citizen’, meaning there was ‘nothing to do’.
That’s when Cagliari gave it a go, and they’ve not regretted it, as the article describes his style of play, stating that ‘when he starts running with the ball at his feet, he is a force of nature’, as he ‘sprints, dribbles, gets into spaces’.
Basically, he’s ‘devastating in the open field’.
Now, these performances have caught the eye of Serie A sides, with Fiorentina, Verona and Sassuolo all keen on him, while Napoli have already had ‘informal chats’ with the agent that follows him in Italy.
As for Manchester United, if he ends up breaking through, then it will certainly be a missed opportunity, as Luvumbo could end up being one of the many who have slipped away.
