It had been a long time since Chelsea were last linked to Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba.

Last summer, when a few Premier League sides were said to be watching the player, it was once claimed that the Blues were one of the sides who made contact for his signing.

That rumour didn’t really get much strength, but has been awoken by a report from Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

On Twitter, his story claims that Tapsoba is ‘definitely’ on Chelsea’s list, being a ‘possible transfer target in the future’.

It’s claimed that the Blues have discussed the 23-year-old as an alternative in case their hunt for Leicester City’s Wesley Fonfana would fail.

Plettenberg doesn’t make it clear what his claim about the ‘future’ means. Chelsea are still to find an agreement with the Foxes for the player, so would that mean they could still go for Tapsoba in the final days of the transfer window? Or are they leaving him as a target for next year?

Either way, the Bayer Leverkusen player would be a cheaper alternative, as he’s currently valued by Trasnfermarkt at €35m.
